Darboussier / Societe Industrielle de Sucrerie (S.I.S.)
I exhibit 3 of the 5 labels of my collection. Other labels differ only in details. Undisplayed labels are variations with minor differences.
In old residence of the directors of the Darboussier sugar refinery in Pointe-a-Pitre is now museum Saint-John Perse.
The Darboussier was established in 1869 as sugar factory. After the sugar crisis in 1902, prolonged by social conflicts, Darboussier was for sale and purchased by a group with metropolitan capital with the participation the Aubert-Raoul Duval family. In 1907 was established new company with the capital 9 million franks. The company resided in new building in Pointe-a-Pitre on the corner of Achille-René-Boisneuf and Nozieres (become the museum Saint-John Perse.)
