Darna

History

Company was established in 1925.

“Darna Ltd.” factory in Rovinj/Rovigno has an 80-year-long tradition in the production of liqueurs.

From the few distilleries and factories of strong drinks that existed during the times of Austro-Hungarian and Italian rule in Rovinj/Rovigno, only one is still active.

According to historical documents, the factory, whose founder and first owner was Giorgio Benussi, started its production in 1925 though there are some suppositions that it had started even before.

Since 1948 the liqueur production had operated within the General Agricultural Cooperative (after World War II the factory was nationalized), while afterwards within “Jadran-Turist”.

From 1996 the factory operated under the name of “Darna Ltd.” in cooperation with the “Jadran-Turist” and since 1998, the year that marked the end of the cooperation, “Darna Ltd.” has been operating independently.
