History
White and Amber Duquesne rums are produced at the Trois Rivieres rum distillery.
In 1976, Martini and Rossi acquired three companies: Les Rhumeries Duquesne (Martinique); La SociMe des Grands Rhums Duquesnes (S.G.R.D.) in Bordeaux, France; and Trois Rivieres, which had been producing both rhum industriel and rhum agricole under the name M. Aubrey until 1975. As a result of this acquisition, Duquesne Trois-Rivieres was formed. The Duquesne name was shared by Ange and Augustin-Marie Duquesne, who both distinguished themselves in the histories of France and Martinique. Ange Duquesne (1702-1778) was an important Canadian army leader. In 1754, he signed a peace treaty with the Iroquois Indians at Fort Duquesne. The fort was later renamed Pittsburgh. Augustin-Marie was born in 1765 and became Captain of the Port in Martinique before cruising the Atlantic Ocean on the privateer, La Fortuneand.
Prior to the acquisition, Rhums Duquesne were made at Riviere-Salee and belonged to the Marraud-Desgrottes family. In 1953, there was an aging cellar large enough for storing part of the production in reserve for aging. Some of the exceptional aged rhum from that cellar is still being marketed.
The Grouppe BBS (part of Groupe Quartier Francais) has locations in the French West Indies (Martinique, Guadeloupe and Guyana). Its headquarters are in Martinique.
The Bellonnie et Bourdillon Successeurs company produces and markets agricole rums (distilled from fresh cane juice): La Mauny, Trois-Rivieres and Duquesne.
