History
1931
Article 1 of ANCAP’s institutional Act number 8.764 of October 15, 1931 states that a state industrial entity is established "under the name of "Administración Nacional de Combustibles, Alcohol y Portland" (National Administration of Fuel, Alcohol and Portland)", in order to "operate and manage the national alcohol and fuel monopoly and to import, rectify and sell oil and oil by-products and to manufacture portland cement ".Act of Establishment of ANCAP
1941
ANCAP imports big volumes of solid fuels as a consequence of the Second World War, and also uses firewood for boilers in its Capurro alcohol distillery.
1944
The highest production of alcohol using corn as raw material is obtained.
1946
Paysandú Distillery was installed in 1946 and finally commissioned in 1948, after testing was performed by the technical staff of Capurro Distillery.
Paysandú Plant is located at a distance of 400 km from Montevideo and only 7 km from the city of Paysandú, on the Northwest Uruguayan coast, over the access road to the General Artigas International Bridge that joins Uruguay and Argentina.
First the Distillery was devoted to the production of drinkable alcohols using maize – largely produced in this region - as raw material. Then, when sugar industry developed, it started processing sugar cane and sugar beet molasses and raw sugar.
1983 - 1996
Paysandú Distillery was exclusively devoted to the production of alcohols and phlegmas from sugars and molasses (largely produced in the region).
1996
Since 1996, the retrofitting of the sugar industry resulted in the elimination of practically all raw material sources. Under these circumstances, and after the renewal of part of the equipment, the grain alcohol production plant at Paysandú Distillery resumed operations.
1998
ANCAP starts the process for the incorporation of its Alcohols Division into a mixed-economy system through a call for bids among the companies interested in associating for grain alcohol manufacturing.
