John Halewood, the company’s founder, owner and chief executive first began observing the drinks trade while working for the Gonzalez Byass Sherry company. It soon became clear that he had an almost instinctive insight into how consumers responded to products and product marketing. He believed that there was a gap in the market that he could develop. To test his conviction, he established Halewood Vintners Limited and began working from the garage of his home. The product that launched the company was Club Royal, a brand of Montilla that that continues its remarkable success to this day. Initially John Halewood performed all the company functions himself, promoting the product, taking orders, delivering and collecting the money. It soon became apparent that John not only had an expertise at identifying successful trade options but also had an ability to surround himself with talented and dynamic staff capable of consistently outperforming all expectations. In this way, Halewood International, as the firm has been known as since 1995, has been able to distinguish market openings, promptly develop strategies suitable to the circumstances, and accurately target imaginative and highly saleable products.
