Geschichte
The Wenneker story goes back to February 16th 1693. It was then that Hendrick Steeman obtained a license to set up two stills in the town of Schiedam. This was the start of the distillery bought by the Wenneker family centuries later, in 1812. By 1903, when F.J.A. Wenneker sold the same company, it had become nationally and internationally famous for its qualitatively superior "jenever" - Dutch gin.
That new owner was Johannes Cornelis Van der Tuijn, a maltster in Schiedam. The Van der Tuijn family still owns Wenneker, which has meanwhile acquired the well-known Piersma, Duys and Smeets distilleries as well as the wine merchants' company Dirk Struys & Zoon. Faced with a shortage of expansion space as the years went on, Wenneker relocated to Roosendaal in 1967.
