Ernst Hebling

* 1.12.1845 Olomouc – † 8.9.1906 Moravská Ostrava (a district of Ostrava)
printer, bookseller, publisher

He came from a family of locksmith masters.
He gained bookselling experience with merchants in Brno and in Bremen, Germany. He arrived in Moravská Ostrava in 1869. Over time, he first established a printing house in Místek, which he unsuccessfully tried to move to Moravská Ostrava from 1878 onwards. It was not until 1887 that he managed to take over the financially struggling printing house of Franz Wattolik in Moravská Ostrava, along with the publication of the newspaper *Mährisch-schlesischer Grenzbote*, which he transformed into a daily newspaper under the name *Ostrauer Tagblatt* in 1900. He also published the newspapers *Arbeiterfreund* and *Přítel dělníků* (Friend of Workers). Since 1876, he operated a special agency of the insurance company *Lebens-Versicherungs-Gesellschaft* from Leipzig for Moravská Ostrava and its surroundings.
He was involved in the committee for the establishment of a concert hall in Moravská Ostrava and was one of the founders of the local German House.
